Musger MG 19a Steinadler
The vehicle and airplane designer Erwin Musger was behind the creation of more production models than any other Austrian aircraft designer before and after World War II. After the ban on aircraft manufacturing imposed by the Allies was lifted, Musger developed one of his best-known sailplanes in 1951: the MG 19. The two-seater gull wing version, the MG 19a, went into production in 1954 and 21 models were built. The MG 19a boasts slow flight capabilities and a prominent gull wing design, where the wings are mounted very low on the fuselage to enable the pilot to see better. Worldwide, there are only about ten models of the Steinadler (golden eagle) still in flight. A Musger MG 19a owned by Mario Selss will be on display at AIRPOWER11; the aircraft was approved for flight again in 2010 after a general overhaul which took three years (over 800 man hours).
