A blessed start:Pontifical mass for AIRPOWER24

On the evening of 3rd September 2024, many visitors gathered in the Benedictine Abbey of Seckau for a solemn pontifical mass. The Holy Mass is an integral part of AIRPOWER24 and marks the beginning of a unique event where human technology and skill come together.

The mass was opened by the Styrian military band, which performed both modern and classical pieces at a concert in the square -from ‘I am from Austria’ to the well-known Radetzky March. Father Johannes Franger, Abbot of Seckau, welcomed all the residents of Seckau present, the members of the Austrian Armed Forces, and the entire AIRPOWER24 team. Many soldiers from the Vienna 1 ‘Hoch-und Deutschmeister’ fighter battalion in particular attended the mass.

The mass provided space for musical highlights and for meaningful readings. Military Bishop Werner Freistädter spoke words of blessing for asuccessful and accident-free AIRPOWER24. He wished protection and help for the coming days and encouraged everyone involved -from pilots and staff to spectators -to have a wonderful and safe celebration. He also reminded everyone that AIRPOWER24 draws attention to the impressive technology and skills of the pilots while also openinga view of the sky.
