AIRPOWER24 - the highlights of the Flying Bulls

"Flying, freedom, enthusiasm" - this is the motto of AIRPOWER24. A total of 206 aircraft from 20 nations will take off and captivate around 300,000 visitors with impressive formation flights and displays.

Traditionally, AIRPOWER24, organized by the Austrian Armed Forces, the Province of Styria and Red Bull, is heralded in with an emotional opening show by the Austrian Armed Forces and the parachutists of HSV Red Bull Salzburg, who will land on the airfield with the Austrian flag. It is the prelude to a brilliant airshow. The legendary Flying Bulls fleet will be right in the middle of it all, providing goosebump moments once again this year. They will be present at AIRPOWER24 with a total of 37 aircraft with all the highlights from Hangar-8 in Salzburg – and will also have a premiere in their luggage: the B51 Mustang ‘Nooky Booky’ will be part of the Vintage Parade for the very first time, where the Flying Bulls’ warbirds with the characteristic radial engines will fly in a large formation. Of course, the two AlphaJets, the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, the Chance Cought F4U-4 Corsair and the B-25J Mitchell will also be there.

The Vintage Parade is one of a total of 5 displays featuring some of the most beautiful and rarest aircraft in history that Flying Bulls fans should not miss at AIRPOWER24.

The Czech Flying Bulls Aerobatics Team will also be there and will put on a great performance together with the Czech Air Force in a 4-man formation. And what would AIRPOWER24 be without Dario Costa? Together with Luke Czepiel, who impressed the international scene with his Bullseye Landing in March 2023, he will put on a brilliant show in a Carbon Cub EX2 in “his” Zivko Edge 540, with which he also caused a sensation with his tunnel pass. This will be the first time the two aerobatic aces have flown a display together – and they are not yet showing their cards. We are extremely excited to see what the two stars of the scene will conjure up in the clouds in Zeltweg.

The Flying Bulls also have the BO 105 and Bell Cobra 209/AH-1F helicopters with Mirko Flaim, Siegfried ‘Blacky’ Schwarz and Felix Baumgartner in the line-up. Together, they want to cover the entire AIRPOWER24 area from west to east with parallel maneuvers so that all visitors can enjoy their flying skills up close. The difficulty lies precisely in this synchronicity – a challenge that the three experienced helicopter pilots will face.

A whisper-quiet highlight is also provided by the Red Bull Blanix team, who a few weeks ago managed a cool Red Bull can exchange at an altitude of 2,500 meters with REFUEL together with the Red Bull Skydive Team. It is always impressive to see how quiet as a mouse it gets during the Red Bull Blanix gliders’ airshow at Hinterstoisser Air Base, with every fan gazing up into the sky with anticipation. Speaking of the Red Bull Skydive Team: the crew around Marco Waltenspiel, Marco Fürst and Max Manow, who caused a worldwide sensation with their action of flying through the iconic Tower Bridge in London, will be showing a so-called ‘flair’ upwards at AIRPOWER24 as a tribute to this unique project, just as it was necessary in the capital of England to be able to turn “Wings through Tower Bridge” into reality.

Our tip: At the Flying Bulls static display, you can marvel at the legendary DC-6, which is considered the “crown jewel” of the Flying Bulls fleet and was considered Yugoslavia’s “Air Force One” by Marshal Tito, as well as the PT 17 Stearman, Aviat Husky and the Bell 47 G-3B-1 Soloy helicopter.

Armed Forces Must-Sees

You can look forward to the Eurofighter’s new clothes – because just in time for AIRPOWER24, the Eurofighter Typhoon will appear in a new ‘Grey Tiger’ look. A real eye-catcher! In addition to this novelty, which the Austrian Armed Forces September 6th and September 7, 2024 in Zeltweg, they are also digging deep into the nostalgia box: 25 airplanes and helicopters as well as special vehicles and special forces are staging the legendary saga ‘The Argonauts in Search of the Golden Fleece’ in an unprecedented way. The artist network Lawine Torrèn is the mastermind behind this dramaturgical masterpiece, accompanied by music composed by the well-known composer and arranger Tristan Schulze and played by more than 140 musicians from the Austrian military band. ‘Art meets military’ – we are extremely excited about this world premiere at AIRPOWER24.

Our summary: We are certain that AIRPOWER24 will be remembered by all visitors for a long time.
