Welcome to the Flying Bulls

The Flying Bulls are the largest single exhibitor at AIRPOWER22, after the Austrian Armed Forces. We looked around Salzburg for you before the Flying Bulls fleet takes off for Zeltweg.

You get goosebumps when you walk through Hangar 7 and Hangar 8 in Salzburg. This is the home of the Flying Bulls, the unique collection of legendary flying machines. These include rarities such as the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, a North American B-25J Mitchell, a Chance Vought F4U-4 “Corsair”, North American T-28 “Trojan”, North American P-51 Mustang, and a Douglas DC-6B as one of the highlights of the Flying Bulls fleet. With the PT-17 Stearman, the “Harley of the skies” will also be present at AIRPOWER22 and will play a leading role in a world premiere.

The fleet of helicopters is no less impressive: two BO-105s, the world’s only helicopters certified for civil aerobatics, are in the ranks of the Flying Bulls. There are also helicopters such as the Bell Cobra and a Bristol Sycamore – the only one still flying in the world.

You can experience these aircraft and helicopter highlights live and see them up close at AIRPOWER22 on 2nd and 3rd September 2022.

The pilots
Around a dozen pilots make up the Flying Bulls crew – led by the two flight operations managers, Raimund Riedmann (chief fixed-wing pilot), and Siegfried “Blacky” Schwarz (chief helicopter pilot). The pilots are Mirko Flaim, Philipp Haidbauer, Eric Goujon, Hans Pallaske, Frederic Handelmann, Stefan Doblhammer, Miguel Hochleitner, and Eskil Amdal. They give the historic aircraft wings at international airshows and of course also high above Zeltweg at AIRPOWER22.

“Red Bull Aerobatic Triple” world premiere
In the Red Bull Aerobatic Triple, the Flying Bulls and the Red Bull Skydive Team simultaneously combine three aerobatic elements – an absolute world premiere. The BO-105, Dario Costa’s EDGE 540, and the Red Bull Skydive Team will be in the air simultaneously. The spectacle will be accompanied by the PT-17 Stearman, the Bell Cobra 209/AH-1F, and HSV Red Bull Salzburg parachutists. Why is this manoeuvre so unique? “The speed, flight behaviour, and many more characteristics of these three groups don’t match at all,” explains Raimund Riedmann, Flying Bulls chief pilot. It is only possible to perform this choreography with the highest precision and perfect timing. This unique stunt in free fall will be one of the highlights of AIRPOWER22 and will give you goosebumps.
